Benfield expands in Sunderland with £5 million Ford dealership

The North East’s largest Motor Group, Benfield is continuing its expansion plans with the announcement it is building a flagship £5 million Ford Dealership in Sunderland.
The proposed Ford retail outlet on Newcastle Road in Sunderland follows Benfield’s acquisition of the present Jennings Ford passenger car franchise on Riverside Road, Wessington Way, Sunderland.
Benfield’s new Ford car franchise is already open for business and the new £5m Ford development on Newcastle Road will create at least 45 jobs in the region and is due for completion by January 2013.
Benfield, who already have five Ford dealerships throughout Yorkshire, is delighted to be expanding with Ford and the plans for the new franchise in Sunderland are seen a real coup for the company. Benfield recently added four Audi sites to its growing portfolio of dealerships with the purchase of North East Audi.
Mark Squires, Chief Executive, Benfield Motor Group, said “We are delighted to announce this significant development and expansion of our Ford territory. The proposed state-of- the-art Showroom is due to be fully operational by January 2013 and we already have a temporary Showroom and Service Centre in place.
“Moving into Sunderland with Ford is a natural geographic fit for Benfield and we are very much looking forward to building and developing the Benfield brand and reputation in Wearside.”
The proposed £5 million development will include 14 car showroom, a full Aftersales service and Service and Repair centre.
Staff at the present Jennings Ford site on Riverside Road have transferred over to Benfield with a temporary showroom operated by Benfield in place at Newcastle Road on 1st May 2012. The new £5 million retail outlet is due to be fully operational by January 2013.
The new Ford site increases Benfield’s dealership network to 33 across the North East of England, Teesside, Yorkshire, Cumbria and South West Scotland.
The Benfield Group represents key brands including Nissan, Audi, Volkswagen, Alfa Romeo, Toyota, Honda, Lexus, Hyundai, Skoda, Kia, Ford and Renault.
Benfield was founded in Newcastle in 1957 by John Squires Senior and developed by John Squires Junior, the present Chairman and donates 5% of group profits to worthy causes through the Benfield Charitable Trust.
